No one had done it before.
Never, in the history of the NFL Super Bowl had a team come back from a 21-0 deficit. The greatest comeback was from a ten point deficit.
How did Tom Brady and the New England Patriots come back and win the 2017 Super Bowl from a score like that?
Have you been there? Feeling like you have to make some sort of history to get out of the mess you are in? Or are you there now? The score is: life 21 and you 0.
It is hard to muscle up the mental and physical energy to think you can succeed when you are that low.
To believe when reality says it is impossible you have to:
- not panic
- dig deep
- remind yourself of your talent, power and passion and
- keep doing all the things that have brought you success in the past.
Brady didn’t panic.
According to a quote from Monday Morning Quarterback, this is what happened at half-time:
“Funny thing,” said offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels after the game. “When we came out after halftime, “Bill [Belichick] said to me, ‘We’ll be okay. Our guys believe. They will fight their ass off.’ I think when you’ve got Tommy, you feel like there’s never going to be any kind of panic in him, so there’s never going to be any kind of panic in us.”
We will be okay. We believe. We will fight.
You have been down before and came back. Believe you are okay, believe you can do it and then fight.
I suffered a huge professional loss in 2008-2009. Before that time, I had been successful at overcoming challenges and being down in the score. But, this was historical. This was a “no one in history has ever recovered from this” kind of feeling. I am not going to tell you that I did not have some serious periods of doubt. In the end, I knew I had been down before and came back and won. I started to believe I could do it again. Then I fought my way back to success.
You’ve got this.
The greatest comeback in history is in you!
