Have you ever felt the labour pains of creating something new?
For the past month I have been launching a new business called Be an Author Today to help others realize their dream of becoming a published author. I can tell you that much of what I have been through can be compared to the birth of my three children.
You see, you start out all excited. You have this amazing idea. Let’s add to the family! The seed is planted and you start planning.
Then, reality sets in.
What if I am not good at this?
What if something goes wrong?
What if I bring into existence the ugliest business in the world?
My emotions have run the gamut of happiness, glee, exasperation, nausea (okay, this is not an emotion but it feels like one sometimes), paralyzing fear, high anxiety, excitement, and pure joy.
This is why there is only a small percentage of the population that are crazy enough to strike out on their own to start a business.
Starting a business is not for the faint of heart!
But, when you do take that chance, and this could be on a business, on love, on a new city or new job, it is the closest you will come to living life to the fullest. Running the gamut of emotions IS life. Being a little scared is good because it means you are stepping out of your comfort zone and stepping up to your potential.
Isn’t that the point of our existence????
So as I go through these labour pains and watch the birth of this business and then enjoy the growth into maturity, I remind myself, in between the panic attacks, that I am one of the lucky ones. I am living on the edge of something amazing and living in midst of pure emotion.
If you aren’t feeling, you aren’t living.
I am living!
Which makes the labour pains well worth the price of admission.
