The lesson I seem to be learning in 2014 is that life can change in an instant.
Now, you may not see that as a positive thing, but I do. That means that there are 86,400 seconds every day for things to get better, for the phone to ring, for the tides to turn. Instead of living in the possibility of that moment, we often spend the day begrudging the way things are.
I am preparing a sermon for Sunday because I am a guest speaker at my sister’s church. I entitled it, “Today is the Day” and it is all in recognition of that potential, that favor that is ready to be poured out, that knowledge that God is ready to change everything in an instant. The question is, are you ready for the change?
Last week I thought I had my life figured out. I was ready to head back into the corporate world. Not my first choice, but a good move for my family and my bank account. I did not even realize I was dreading it. I was just doing what I thought I had to. I had given up, at least temporarily, on my dream to serve the world in a way that would make an impact, a difference. I had come so close, but it just didn’t happen. I had let it go and moved on. Then, a text message changed everything. Life changed in an instant.
I had 86, 400 moments that day for something to happen and it did. And, I was ready to say yes even if it meant giving up all the perks of the corporate world.
If you think that it can’t happen to you, that life cannot change in an instant, think about when you got your first job, met the person of your dreams, got a promotion, had a friend call you right when you needed a friend, got the money just in time, you were in the right place at the right time, you saw something amazing that inspired you for the rest of the day or week, he kissed you, you got that call you have been waiting for. Your life has always been marked by those moments that came out of nowhere and changed everything.
86, 400 moments.
We get that many every single day. And, if nothing remarkable happens today, you have another 86,400 seconds in your day tomorrow to be ready for because you have no idea how many wonderful things are headed your way.
So, don’t give up, Don’t give in. Don’t decide that it is over if it is not over in your heart. And, don’t ever forget that everything can change in an instant. That is the gift in living life to the fullest and having the faith to carry you until what you are waiting for comes your way.
How would your life be different if you thought you had 86,400 chances every day to make it a good one?
